Success is not about you; it requires others. You need to help others reach their dreams if you want to reach yours. It’s ok to place others before you.
As a leader, in business and in life, your every move—what you do and don’t do, what you say and don’t say, and how you do and say it—are watched and processed by others. In my experience, what distinguishes those who attain top positions or build great organizations is a willingness to help others achieve their goals.
Helping others should be a natural extension of every business leader’s responsibilities. Unfortunately, it doesn’t come as easy as you would think. As leaders, we often get too caught up in operations or our own problems to give people the help they need. However, in the last year, I’ve realized that most of my best clients, partners and relationships have come from me helping someone.
Helping others isn’t always easy. It can sometimes derail your schedule and cost you time, money and other resources. It can even be interpreted the wrong way. However, keep these tips in mind for some easy ways to show your connections that they truly matter to you.
You have permission to mess up!
Some days that’s harder to accept than others, but I know I am okay and that all I have to do is learn from what has happened in my life and be a better person because of it.
I’m no stranger to messing up and making mistakes. It’s ok to know that everything doesn’t have to be perfect. When you’ve put time, energy, heart, and soul into a certain kind of life (or job, relationship, identity, etc.), it can be scary and uncomfortable to tear it all down.
To leave a long-term relationship, quit a job (or switch careers), or walk away from the ease, comfort, and security of it all seems overwhelming. But, sometimes you have to make a mess of things to find the joy and fulfillment you desire and deserve. Some days that’s harder to accept than others; but I know I am okay and all I have to do is learn from what has happened in my life and be a better person because of it. Give yourself permission to mess up!
Building your brand is a constant in business. Your online reputation is everything, especially when one of the pillars of a great brand is transparency. One of the main reasons you have customers/clients is because of your authentic brand. When followers or likes are purchased, it’s humiliating for your business because it proves that you’re unable to actually bring real people to your company, you’re not who you say you are, and you become a target for spam. Social media brand building takes a lot of time and effort, but if you are smart about it you can still be successful, even when dealing with all of this competition. Build an AUTHENTIC brand!
